Ted Scripps Fellowships in Environmental Journalism

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Take your journalism skills to the next level and deepen your understanding of environmental issues by applying for the 2019-2020 Ted Scripps Fellowships in Environmental Journalism. Five accepted candidates will audit courses, participate in weekly seminars and field trips, and work on a significant project. These positions are offered by the Center for Environmental Journalism, part of the College of Media, Communication and Information at the University of Colorado Boulder.

The program provides a $71,000 stipend. It also covers tuition and fees, a regional bus pass, and attendance at the annual SEJ conference. Employment begins at the start of the Fall 2019 semester and runs for nine months through the end of the Spring 2020 semester. All university breaks and holidays will be observed.

REQUIREMENTS:

The fellowship is open to full-time journalists working in any medium who are interested in deepening and broadening their knowledge of environmental issues. It is aimed at outstanding journalists committed to a career in professional journalism.

Applicants must have a minimum of five years full-time professional journalism experience and must also have at least a BA or BS college degree. Applicants may include reporters, editors, producers, photojournalists, documentarians, and feature writers. Both salaried staff and full-time freelancers are welcome to apply. Prior experience in covering the environment is not required.

Report equipment problems, update discrepancy reports to communicate any occurrence that departs from program log or quality goals
Cross-training on other shifts in the event of scheduling emergencies
 

REQUIREMENTS:

Understand and adhere to FCC rules and regulations regarding proper execution of EAS tests, Amber Alerts and other emergency on air notifications, use of digital delay to adhere to obscenity policy.

POSITION PURPOSE:

 

Americas best sports city and biggest sports talk radio stations is looking for an Executive Producer to help produce entertaining and compelling programming that that informs, engages, and entertains sports fans on broadcast, digital, and social platforms for 104.3 The Fan (KKFN) and ESPN 1600 Denver (KEPN). This position will act as a regular voice, helping to steer the producers and hosts through the topics of the day.  The Executive Producer will be responsible for assisting the Program Director with a variety of tasks including teaching and coaching, sales deliverables, and creative station strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Program Director to listen to and improve existing shows
  • Work with emerging talents to build strengths and shows that are on-brand and compelling
  • Work with Program Director to develop station strategy and share and brainstorm ideas, which could bring about programming continuity. 
  • Understand and implement best practices for ratings
  • Coach, develop, and direct KKFN/KEPN Producers and board operators to help maximize their contribution to our platforms.
  • Recognize, conceptualize, and develop unique angles within daily sports stories
  • Help frame, develop, and manage host(s) ideas and opinions, often steering on air content.
  • Find, record, edit and mix audio on deadline

  • Work with STO and PD to create and maintain a master schedule for the station that includes events, play-by-play, vacations, holidays etc.
  • Locate and identify new talent from Denver or other markets
  • Oversee and/or assist promotions projects and events
  • Attend promotions, sales, digital and other meetings as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

POSITION PURPOSE:

We need a dynamic Promotions Coordinator to coordinate the various functions of the promotions department that satisfy listeners and advertiser needs for 104.3 The FAN, 98.5 KYGO, and KOSI 101.1. The right individual will be ambitious, energetic and who possesses organizational skills with the ability to multi-tasks in a fast-paced work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Promotion Department with on-air, on-line and on-site promotions. This is an entry-level position that involves assisting with all administrative functions of radio promotions.  Main responsibilities include managing and distributing station prizes and premiums, performing basic office administrative functions; all stations action plans, vehicle maintenance and upkeep, managing prize bags, and handling clients and listeners.  This coordinator is also responsible for drafting and coordinating schedules for promotional assistants for on-site events. Occasional responsibilities include:  driving promotional vehicles; setting up and running audio and other types of audio equipment, hanging banners and other staging elements and conducting on-site promotions. This position reports to the Promotions Manager.
