Associate Producer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

WHNT, a Tribune Broadcasting station, has an opening for a temporary Associate Producer to work in our Huntsville location.

The Associate Producer must be a strong storyteller who brings energy and is ready to take on a challenging new opportunity! This role will excel under tight deadlines and bring bold, creative ideas for developing the newscast.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write, research and provide news content for air
  • Collaborate with Producers, Executive Producers, Editors and the assignment desk to develop news stories
  • Evaluate local, state and national/international stories using websites, Twitter, FOX/CBS/CNN/Tribune news services and wires
  • Learn to fill-in produce
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field preferred; equivalent experience required
  • 1 year of experience in a newsroom strongly preferred
  • Must be able to work well under deadline pressure
  • Must exhibit solid news judgment
  • Must be accurate and consistent in writing ability
  • Must be proactive and work well in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, holidays and/or weekends

JOB DESCRIPTION:

WHNT, a Tribune Broadcasting station, has an opening for a Reporter/MMJ to work in our Huntsville location.

The Reporter/MMJ must have an engaging on-air personality and the ability to make the audience feel, learn and want to come back for more.  This position will contribute to the content gathering of information for WHNT, the station websites and social media.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pitch unique stories that will get results and drive ratings
  • Accurately report on a variety of subjects and break stories the competition doesn’t have
  • Shoot, edit, write and produce easy to understand news stories, including vo’s, vo/sot’s and packages
  • Cover breaking news with a sense of urgency
  • Establish and maintain relationships/sources in the community
  • Produce content and video for Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience required
  • 2+ years MMJ experience
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver compelling and promotable stories

  • Develop and supervise effective workflow strategies and procedures for multiple programs

  • 5 years previous news producing experience
  • Supervisory experience highly preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize non-linear video editing systems for on-air and online content
  • Run audio for live newscasts. Perform microphone checks and other duties to ensure audio coverage
  • Run studio camera and/or teleprompter for live newscasts
  • Post video and text content to station’s website, updating station’s Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors’ degree preferred; equivalent experience required
  • Proficiency with Final Cut Pro preferred

Technician, Director/TD

JOB DESCRIPTION:

WHNT, a Tribune Broadcasting station, has an opening for a Director to work in our Huntsville location.

The Director will be responsible for the technical directing and guidance of on-air talent and studio crew in order to provide viewers with a professional-looking newscast.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with pre-show prep and post-show promotions
  • Set up and operate studio cameras, monitors and teleprompter
  • Verify all light fixtures, props, monitors and set pieces are in position and functioning properly
  • Coordinate and communicate with show Producers and other studio crew
  • Ensure proper mixing and switching of all studio and remote video sources
  • Effectively supervise and assign crew members as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors’ degree preferred; equivalent experience required
  • 1-3 years directing live and taped programs
  • Proficiency with Ross Overdrive automation or similar required
  • Audio board experience required
  • Studio production skills a plus
  • Must be able to source and solve equipment problems in the studio and control room
  • Must be able work independently and have a strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to work under the regular pressure of live broadcasts and operational deadlines
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, early mornings and holidays

The Topical Producer will create compelling news spots that will draw in viewers and enhance brand awareness. This position is responsible for writing, shooting and editing teases for newscasts on multiple platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write, shoot and edit topicals designed to encourage viewers to watch more news
  • Understand and execute topicals in line with company branding and goals
  • Manage time while juggling tight deadlines
  • Collaborate with Creative Services Director, News Producers and newsroom talent to ensure topicals capture viewers’ attention
  • Bring creative ideas to tell similar stories
  • Must keep up with and understand local news stories and important issues in our DMA
  • Maintain equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience required
  • Excellent copywriting skills for multiple platforms
  • Proficient with Final Cut X or Adobe Premiere editing systems
  • Ability to shoot video with a DSLR camera
  • Proficient with Adobe Premiere or similar nonlinear editing system
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Ability to work in a rapid, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work Monday – Friday 2:00 – 6:00PM

  • Develop newscast content by researching and suggesting innovative story ideas; understand viewer audience; collaborate with news team to select stories for coverage
  • Execute newscasts with minimal errors and meet deadlines; oversee quality control of newscast while in booth
  • Write and post content for station website and social media platforms
  • Respond to breaking news with a sense of urgency
  • Perform other duties as assigned
