RESPONSIBILITIES:

Requirements:

  • Utilize non-linear video editing systems for on-air and online content
  • Run audio for live newscasts. Perform microphone checks and other duties to ensure audio coverage
  • Run studio camera and/or teleprompter for live newscasts

The MMJ/Associate Producer must be ready to take on a challenging new opportunity! This role will MMJ 2 days a week and perform as Associate Producer 3 days a week. When assigned to the role of Associate Producer, the right candidate must be a strong storyteller who brings energy with excellent writing, spelling and grammar skills, as well as knowledge of pop culture and current events. When assigned to MMJ, the right candidate must have an engaging on-air personality and the ability to make the audience feel, learn and want to come back for more. This position will contribute to the content gathering of information for WHNT, the station websites and social media.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Pitch unique stories that will get results and drive ratings
• Accurately report on a variety of subjects and break stories the competition doesn’t have
• Shoot, edit, write and produce easy to understand news stories, including vo’s, vo/sot’s and packages
• Cover breaking news with a sense of urgency
• Establish and maintain relationships/sources in the community
• Produce content and video for Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites
• Write news content for on-air
• Assist with building graphics
• Assist/fill-in supervising the live on-air delivery of newscasts in the control room
• Collaborate with Producers, Executive Producers, Editors and the assignment desk to develop news stories
• Learn to fill-in produce
• Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience required

The Assistant News Director is a senior management position that will have direct, daily oversight of the WHNT News 19 newsroom (broadcast and digital). This person will have a strong producer background and can make decisions on daily content in a past-faced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Requirements:

  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of newsroom operation with direct responsibility to staff scheduling, special projects and special events
  • Oversight of pre-planning for daily news coverage, news specials and special assignments and work closely with broadcast and digital executive producers and content manager to ensure aggressive, competitive and compelling newscasts
  • Assist with development and execution of overall editorial and promotional strategy to achieve ratings and digital goals
  • Drive editorial content development and quality control for the multiple platforms of WHNT News 19; consider yourself the Chief Product Officer for WHNT News 19
  • Management responsibilities include hiring, training and conducting performance evaluations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or equivalent required
  • 5+ years’ experience in a news leadership position required
  • Previous experience as an Executive Producer/Producer preferred
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Superior writing skills, news judgment and ethical decision-making required
  • Capable of managing a sizable staff while making decisions under pressure
  • Ability to work in a rapid, fast-paced environment
