WHNT, a Tribune Broadcasting station, has an opening for a Sports Anchor/Reporter in our Huntsville location.

The Sports Anchor/Reporter must be a strong sports journalist whose stories go beyond game highlights. This person must bring energy and thrive on producing sports coverage that keeps the non-sports lover entertained! 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute unique sports news, features and enterprise stories that will set the station apart from others and appeal to target audience
  • Produce content for Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites
  • Establish and maintain relationships/sources in the community in order to break local sports-related stories
  • Participate in station community and promotional events
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience required
  • 2-3 years broadcast sports reporting experience
  • Experience covering SEC sports preferred
  • Knowledge of social media/online platforms
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a rapid, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be willing to submit to a background check
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States

News Director

JOB DESCRIPTION:

WHNT, a Tribune Broadcasting station, has an opening for a News Director to work in our Huntsville, AL location.

This is one of the preeminent jobs in broadcasting, heading up a single newsroom producing 37 hours of content each week for the leading news brand in Huntsville.  The News Director will be responsible for multi-platform journalists, creating the vision and executing the strategy that will continue to drive audience ratings and the online success of the station. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee all aspects of the news operation, leading the daily editorial process and executing multi-platform coverage.
  • Supervise overall coverage of breaking news, investigative reporting, special projects, special event and political coverage. Make digital/social platforms a key component of everything we do.
  • Exhibit outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills. Hire and develop top quality journalists, coach dynamic and effective managers, oversee talent and newsroom staff, review and evaluate, reward and discipline as needed.  Address complaints and resolve problems promptly. 
  • Drive a culture of creativity, teamwork and excellence on all platforms. Be cognizant of industry opportunities and challenges and innovate solutions.
  • Develop and manage the newsroom budget and provide guidance for capital resources.
  • Collaborate with station departments to identify and execute strategies to take advantage of station opportunities.
  • Utilize research across diverse sources to grow newscasts and digital footprint across the DMA.
  • Seek out and develop community contacts and opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience required
  • 7-10 years’ newsroom management experience; multiple market experience preferred
  • Proven journalistic skills and knowledge of worldwide news events required
  • Exceptional leadership and organizational skills to produce 37 hours per week of content across multiple platforms
  • Must possess strong, effective communication and leadership skills, directing a large and diverse news staff to maintain a consistent and high-quality news product on-air and online
  • Visionary thinker, excellent strategy and tactics development
  • Excellent coaching, training, problem-solving
  • Energetic, able to multi-task in a dynamic environment

Photographer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

WHNT, a Tribune Broadcasting station, has an opening for a full-time Photographer to work in our Huntsville, AL location.

The Photographer must be able to creatively capture and edit news video while collaborating with news team on story ideas and/or pictorial essays.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Shoot video of news events, both live and recorded for news program
  • Edit material to match script prepared by MMJ, reporter, producer or executive producer
  • Set up necessary equipment in order to allow transmissions of pictures or live from-the-scene reports back to the station
  • Responsible for ensuring assigned equipment is returned and in good working condition
  • Notify proper channel when equipment and/or vehicles malfunction
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience required
  • 3+ years’ experience as news or production photographer
  • 2 years’ experience in editing
  • Strong background in ENG (electronic news gathering) operations
  • SNG (satellite news gathering) experience preferred
  • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule including nights, early mornings, holidays and weekends
  • Ability to work in a rapid, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds on a regular basis

The Assistant Creative Services Director is a highly motivated, organized and creative individual.  They are charged with helping the Creative Services Director manage day to day operations of the department, onboarding of new team members, working with Creative Services Director to produce marketing strategic action plan and help enforce its execution to grow ratings. REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year relevant professional experience
  • Understand and successfully execute writing, lighting, nonlinear and design principals
  • Proficient with Final Cut X or Adobe Premiere editing systems
  • Fluent in DSLR technology and cinematography
  • Understand and use Adobe AfterFX
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Readiness to work outside standard business hours when necessary
