Multi-platform Content Producer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

FLSA: Exempt

Purpose of Position: To work in collaboration with the editorial team for the production of timely and engaging multi-platform content for distribution to KTVA’s broadcast and on-line audience. Responsible for planning, coordinating and collaborating with the team to manage logistics of daily coverage to include collecting information from multiple sources and assigning staff to produce content for distribution that will engage our audience. Continuously refine content guidelines and enforce journalistic standards.

Position’s Customer(s): KTVA reporters, KTVA viewers

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties of Position:

Functions

  • Works closely with the editorial management team and content producers throughout the day as news develops
  • Prepare daily coverage plan and future coverage plans
  • Prepare for morning editorial and coaching meeting
  • Responsible for afternoon news meeting
  • Responsible for afternoon editorial team meeting
  • Responsible for maintaining newsroom schedule, to include a weekly collaboration meeting
  • Coordinate coverage requests from producers and newsroom managers
  • Assign stories throughout the day to include being the primary person to manage newsroom email.
  • Responsible for newsroom logistics include resource management, updating the assignment board and inputting stories into daily and future planner and communicating live shots to reporters, photographers, engineering and operations crew
  • Colloborate with editorial management team for special event coverage
  • Generate story ideas through beat calls, social media, wires, websites and contacts throughout the state

Coordination/Communication:

  • Work with field crews to proactively respond to breaking news for broadcast and digital platforms
  • Oversee all story checks, follow-ups and assignments are pursued and communicated
  • Coordinate and fulfill requests with CBS Newspath and CNN Newsource
  • Closely collaborate with the team to ensure needs are planned for, executed, and maintained to a high degree of accuracy and quality;
  • Coordinate with the other teams as necessary to ensure content on various features are updated in time for planned events.

REQUIREMENTS:

Years of Experience required to meet minimum qualifications: Three or more years’ experience as a print, online, or broadcast journalist required.

Level of Education required to meet minimum qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor Degree in journalism or related field required. In addition to minimum experience required, a combination of relevant work and/or education may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis. 

Certifications Required: Industry specific certifications are highly valued and can contribute toward education.

Reporting Relationships:

Position reports to: Assistant News Director

Physical Requirements: Physical effort may include stooping, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Hearing, vision, depth perception, and hand-to-eye coordination sufficient to perform job duties.  Visual and auditory acuity necessary to operate equipment and identify color-coding.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the normal business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. Job Summary:

KTVF seeks a detail oriented Television Broadcast Operator to join our team. The Operator controls broadcast automation equipment to deliver and monitor on-air television programs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operates video and audio switching/routing equipment to deliver programs, station breaks, and announcements on-air according to pre-established program logs
  • Makes programming changes according to established guidelines in the event of program discrepancies or emergencies
  • Records all programming discrepancies in detailed station Discrepancy Reports
  • Records all programming changes in station program log
  • Monitors transmitter operation and reports deviations or malfunctions
  • May perform related duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Requirements:

  • Ability to learn the operation of broadcast automation equipment for television broadcast.
  • Ability to learn television terminology and procedures.
  • Must be able to make rapid mathematical calculations.
  • Basic computer literacy as well as typing/keyboarding 15 to 30 words per minute.
  • Must be able to keep detailed records.
  • Ability to perform tasks while under pressure to maintain deadlines.
  • Ability to make program change decisions independently, according to established guidelines.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with co-workers and the public. Knowledge of broadcast automation is a plus!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities for this position may include:

  • Maintain and repair all technical and electronic equipment at the studios and transmitter sites with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Install, monitor and perform maintenance on control consoles, audio routers, recording equipment, microphones, digital audio systems, transmitters, antenna systems, meters, control systems, and remote equipment, including accurate record keeping.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair local computer infrastructure to include local area network, on-air automation system, and office workstation

REQUIREMENTS:

Requirements of this position include the following:

  • Knowledge of all applicable FCC rules and regulations.
  • Experience in computer based broadcast automation.
  • Experience with cluster-wide studio equipment and operations, audio routing and distribution of analog, digital and audio-over-IP protocols, EAS, satellite receivers, studio telephones and broadcast IT systems.
  • Proficiency in basic electronics theory and principles including Ohms law and the ability to read schematics.
  • Ability to use test equipment, i.e. Multi-meters, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, and field strength meters in troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently to troubleshoot and repair high-power AM and FM transmitting facilities including troubleshooting down to the component level when practical.
  • Knowledge of telephone systems and protocols including POTS, ISDN, T1, DSL, VoIP and PRI circuits.
  • Knowledge of building systems, HVAC, electrical, UPS, and standby generators.
  • Possess IT skills including PC/server troubleshooting and repair as well as knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP and local area networking.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical information and interact easily with all levels of staff.
  • Current SBE membership.
  • Able to be on-call after hours for emergencies or routine maintenance as needed.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Experience with NexGen Automation for Radio.
  • Experience with Directional AM Systems.
  • Knowledge of telephone systems and cellular.
  • SBE, Microsoft, and CompTIA Certifications.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are looking for a dynamic Multimedia Journalist for the morning shift at KTUU, one that will be responsible for developing, investigating, writing, shooting, reporting and editing stories of interest. MMJs must generate stories and source contacts, and enterprise stories on a daily basis.
