News Content Manager


KUSI 9 News in San Diego is looking for a qualified News Content Manager to manage the news effort by overseeing and coordinating all planning, scheduling, production, broadcast and digital publication of local news which support the mission and direction of KUSI NEWS.


This is the primary staff position responsible for managing and coordinating the generation of content for all KUSI NEWS programs, including broadcasts, special events, and digital platform oversight. This is also the primary gatekeeper for ensuring quality control and maintaining control of subject matter, length, and placement across all platforms. This position will generate content ideas daily, establish mechanism to derive content from entire staff.  Will coordinate content development with long term planners, establish “original “content and special reports mechanism and assign content to specific programs and oversee schedule. The person will select content for promotion in daily schedule, utilize all content sources to ensure “localism”. Will set standards for what is newsworthy, establish standards for use of stringer material, and explore other avenues for content besides CNN and AP. This position will develop long term themes that KUSI can own and explore, establish areas of specific assignment to reporters (beats)and act as executive in charge (EIC) when required by news director.


Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or related field. Five years’ experience in news. Producer, assignment editor, or planning experience preferred. Collegial, interactive, management style. Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
