Master Control is the heartbeat of our station, and we’re looking for a leader who truly understands the importance of behind-the-scenes craftsmanship. This position serves to ensure that all Master Control (MC) personnel meet the operational performance goals for KOB, KOBF, KOBR, KOBC, CometTV, ThisTV, Reelz Channel, and their associated channel streams. The Master Control Supervisor will step into the management role by regularly monitoring the performance of master control operators, assuring standard operating procedure compliance, improving and updating procedures, and ensuring master control equipment is working correctly, documenting and tracking any equipment problems. This position must be a strong team player and can foster a spirit of cooperation and helpfulness.
Duties include, but are not limited to: operation of master control system and remote transmission relays and backup power sources; provide information as needed for Engineering staff; train and supervise all master control operators and the Assistant Master Control Supervisor; resolve any employee issues as they arise; maintain and ensure compliance with master control standard operating procedures; oversee day-to-day operations including scheduling; have knowledge of FCC guidelines and requirements and ensure their compliance; develop and perform training sessions as needed; serve as on-call replacement for staff vacation and sick coverage; maintain discrepancy logs and equipment incident reports; and interface with other departments as needed.
The successful candidate will have 3+ years of master control operations experience with multi-channel operations and management experience preferred; strong communication skills in person, in writing, and over the phone; is able to read, write, and speak English well; possess solid computer software and hardware skills; knowledge of and experience with video tape machines, video servers, master control automation systems and switching equipment, scheduling/recording/playback of satellite feeds/syndicated programming; solid understanding of broadcast techniques and language and can demonstrate proficiency in equipment, techniques, and language; proficient hand-eye coordination to monitor multiple screens simultaneously with accuracy.
Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 20 lbs occasionally. Position may require stooping, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. The worker is required to have adequate visual acuity (including color, depth perception, and field vision) to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing multiple computer terminals and video monitors, analyzing monitors and screens for specific and often small information with accuracy.
Must be able to work in areas and conditions that can be noisy, confining, and have many distractions. Listens to and responds verbally in English to others. Must have manual dexterity to operate all equipment including video tape machines, video servers and routing panels/patch panels. Must be able to move quickly at times throughout work area. Stands and sits for long periods of time. Work under tight deadlines and in pressure situations yet remain organized.
