Sr. Data Engineer needed
Boncom is a full-service advertising/marketing agency. We work primarily with cause-based organizations. This is a skunk-works position housed within the analytics/data science group. The position is based in downtown Salt Lake City, UT.
We are looking for a capable Data Engineer. Applicants should be smart, curious developers interested in using large data sets composed of online and proprietary data and analytical methods to answer hard questions. Data Engineers should be fluent in SQL, and in both a high level and low-level programing language. You will have high autonomy to work within your preferred ecosystem and language preferences. Applicant should have experience in collecting, structuring, reporting, and interpreting data to solve difficult problems. No previous agency experienced required.
Experience in software development and scripting.
Adept at rapid prototyping and deployment of stable and maintainable BI solutions.
Fluent and comfortable with SQL.
Strong scripting skills (e.g. Python, SQL, Shell).
Have a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
Experience working with Web APIs (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Google, Adwords, Doubleclick, Site Catalyst, etc.).
Experience with API design and implementations Basic principles of REST, normalized data representation, etc.
Experience with web data collection (e.g. HTML scraping, reverse-engineering simple HTTP web protocols, etc.).
Experience with Cloud services. (e.g. EC2).
Experience with relational databases and optimization (RDBMS).
Experience with non-relational data stores (e.g. ElasticSearch, Cassandra, HBase, Memcached).
Ideal Candidate would also have experience with the following:
Experience with large-scale data products (e.g. Solr, Hadoop, HBase, etc.).
Experience with Java, Ruby, C++, C or C#.
Experience with data visualization technologies (e.g. especially Tableau, Protovis/d3, Google charts, etc).
Experience designing, developing, deploying, and enhancing hi-visibility computer programs, analytics, dashboards and reports.
Experience working on dynamic symbiotic pingpong teams.
Machine learning, information retrieval and data mining (OLAP).
Experience building concurrent, distributed systems.
Understanding of Statistics/Econometrics.
Understanding of clustering and classification techniques (e.g. Naive Bayes, SVM, NN, Boosting Methods, etc.).
Software start-up experience.
Education Requirement and Work Experience:
B.S., or M.S. in Computer Science or related field.
2-5 years experience.
