Rocky Mountain Public Media seeks a VP of News to lead the organization’s work in data-based, in-depth investigative journalism. The ideal candidate for this position has 10 years’ experience in investigative television and demonstrated experience in innovative and strategic planning, including executing complex partnerships with individuals and organizations. This person also must be a good fit for a culture that values trust, commitment, collaboration, innovation and diversity. 


This position is responsible for the day-to-day execution of investigative news strategies, driving the collaborative work of multimedia journalism creation, curation and engagement.

TYPICAL DUTIES:   Develops local, regional, and national programming initiatives, collaborating with internal and external partners to develop in-depth investigative data-based content of distinction that serves the public. Supervises the investigative team producing content for television, radio and digital platforms to meet goals and strategy benchmarks provided by the GM of Content. Coaches, develops and refines the team’s ability to deliver and exceed expectations. Leads development of in-depth story packages, including executive producer responsibilities regarding story identification, strategy, and investigation. Collaboratively develops best practices for content creation, distribution, and repurposing, including the real-time implementation of content strategies on air, online and for in-person engagement. Helps lead development of business cases where new investments are necessary and works with colleagues to execute action plans to address funding gaps. Prepares and directs the budget and expenses related to the investigative team. Collaborates across the company to develop content and distribution strategies that drive continued differentiation and audience engagement and development. Other duties, as assigned. 


QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree in related field with 10+ years’ experience in investigative video production. Demonstrated experience in innovation and strategic planning related to content creation and distribution. Proven editorial skills, exceptional research skills, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Exceptional planning, organizing, problem analysis, judgement and decision-making skills required. Strong evidence of achievement in investigative reporting, long-form storytelling and production management. Ability to work well under pressure and adapt schedule to meet tight deadlines. Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire team of creative personnel to achieve RMPBS’s shared goals. Proven capability to work within an established budget. Must be trustworthy, committed and collaborative, with an innate drive toward innovating the art of storytelling. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable for driving company vehicles. Spanish language skills a plus.
