Multi-Media Production Assistant


WHNT-TV, CBS in Huntsville, Alabama, is always recruiting for part-time Multimedia Production Assistants to join our team. This position frequently comes available as part-timers are routinely promoted within our organization. This is an entry level position and is a great opportunity for someone looking to get a foot in the door and break into the exciting broadcast and digital media industry.


A Multimedia Production Assistant must be able to fulfill a variety of studio, control room and newsroom functions for live television newscasts and various multimedia platforms. The primary duties include editing digital video using non-linear editing systems like Final Cut Pro, running robotic cameras, running audio, teleprompter operation, posting content (video & text) to station website and social media sites.


Minimum Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

Experience operating and/or ability/willingness to learn how to operate the following equipment and computer programs: Final Cut Pro, Vinten Robotic cameras, VizRT graphics, Adobe Photoshop, and/or other similar equipment and systems. Aptitude to learn other technically advanced equipment. Ability to work under extreme pressure and deadlines. Hours will vary and will include early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. Good communication skills and team-centered mindset. Excellent spelling and precision attention to detail a must! Must possess a valid State Drivers License.

Education Requirements:

A college degree in Television Production, Communications or related-degree is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Dexterity to operate production and photography equipment; including, but not limited to all audio equipment, studio/field cameras and computers. Should be able to do light lifting and climb a ladder to change studio lights, if needed.  Must be able to handle stress of a fast-paced, dynamic environment while remaining calm, communicate clearly and make split-second decisions.


  • Video Editing: Non-linear video editing for on-air and online. Must have a clear understanding of video editing fundamentals (sequencing, jump cuts, audio/visual linkage, etc) and legal issues associated with videojournalism. Prefer candidates who are proficient on Final Cut Pro.
  • Running Audio: Consistently runs audio for the newscasts, with great attention to detail, in order to have newscasts with little to no quality control issues. This includes thorough microphone checks 20 minutes before the newscast, as well as changing the batteries in the wireless microphones before these checks are done.
  • Studio Camera/Teleprompter Operation: Run studio camera and/or Teleprompter for live newscasts. Experience with robotic camera systems a plus.
  • Web Posting: Post video and text content to station’s website, updating station’s Twitter and Facebook accounts.
