The Associate Web Editor will gather information and generate original content for copy edit news stories from reporters and post to the stations web site in a professional, compelling, and creative and balance manner consistent with the goals and guidelines of the company. Maintain a vibrant, informative, and conversant social media presence on the company’s social media platforms.
Essential Duties of an Associate Web Editor:
Exceptional copy editing skills consistent with AP style to produce original copy with excellent grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Edit and upload video for use with online content
Use of graphics, links and other online element to add value to stories.
Follow company’s guideline to maintain an interactive presences on social media platforms
Participate in story meetings
Under close supervision, this positon will assist reporters in writing news copy, copy edit news stories and post to KTVA’s social media platform following company guidelines.
Assist reporters in gathering and delivering news and information in an accurate, objective and compelling manner for KTVA.com. Occasionally gather information and generate original content. Participate in story meetings.
Utilize exceptional copy editing skills, consistent with AP style, to produce original copy with flawless grammar, punctuation and spelling. Write or edit headlines, sub-headlines and summaries for search engine optimization.
Assist in maintaining a vibrant, informative, and conversant social media presence on KTVA’s social media platform. Proactively use graphics, links and other online elements to add value to stories, while working closely with reporters to maintain stories’ focus. Follow KTVA guidelines to maintain an interactive presence on social media platforms.
Ability to quickly learn intuitive content management software for posting stories to KTVA.com
Excellent newspaper-style reporting and writing skills are required.
Ability to turn stories, particularly breaking news, and post them to the web in optimal form as soon as possible without sacrificing accuracy.
Ability to use social media outlets for story and station promotion and public interaction.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must have attention to detail.
Knowledge of station guidelines and code of ethics.
Must be technically astute, highly organized and have a reputation for meeting deadlines.
Ability to learn intuitive proprietary video-clipping software for upload to website.
Experience posting with WordPress or other online Content Management Systems
Knowledge of MS Office and other common office tools software required.
Ability to understand and quickly apply new technology.
Knowledge of Photoshop and other graphics software tools.
Knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite, Woobox and other social media applications for optimal social media presence.
Strong verbal communication skills, particularly in the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and the public.
Must be able to reconcile divergent demands of multiple parties under tight timelines.
Proven ability to collaborate within and outside assigned department and create an effective working environment for high traffic and/or potential stressful workloads.
Excellent active listening skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical staff required.
Self-directed and takes the initiative on issues affecting the organization.
Neat, clean, professional appearance when in the field.
Physical Requirements: Office Position: Physical effort may include stooping, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Hearing, vision, depth perception, and hand-to-eye coordination sufficient to perform job duties. Visual and auditory acuity necessary to operate equipment and identify color-coding. Visual acuity necessary to utilize a computer monitor throughout the course of a normal workday. Ability to perform repetitive keyboarding activities and operate general office equipment. Must have the ability to communicate orally, both in person and over the telephone.
Working Conditions: Work is performed at company’s headquarters during a normal 40 hour workweek and may require additional hours to meet project goals or deadlines. Work can be intense and stressful due to time/resource limitations when scheduling multiple tasks with inflexible deadlines. Occasional travel for business and training purposes may be required. Position works a shift schedule, work holidays, and weekends. Follow clothing and appearance guidelines. Work in a cooperative fashion with all other newsroom personnel.
The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the normal business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. You will be requested to provide an emergency after hours contact numbers.
One year or more, experience as a print, online, or broadcast journalist required.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field is preferred.
Certifications: Industry specific certifications are highly valued and can contribute toward education.
Driving Requirements (if applicable): Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record. Must be able to drive, as use of personal vehicle for transportation between various company facilities within the Anchorage area is required.
