KSL TV is looking for a News Photographer to work General Assignments as assigned by the assignment desk. KSL is searching for a photographer who can adhere to strict NPPA Principles and will bring collaborative storytelling expertise to every story assigned. KSL was recently named a finalist for the NPPA Large Market Station of the Year, and this year KSL TV was also nominated for 44 EMMY Awards. We pay NPPA memberships, and photographers are required to participate in the Quarterly Clips contest.
Proficiency in non-linear editing is a must;
Ability to learn Sat Truck operations; and ability to be on-call one week a month for Sat Truck duties if needed
Capture and edit news events and tell stories as assigned by the assignment desk;
Gather information and convert it into appropriate visual, written, audio and/or digital format as assigned;
Timely and safely drive to and from news events;
Correctly operate and maintain in good working condition all ENG camera/deck, automobile and other assigned gear including microwave equipment;
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of photographer/editor/live functions of the newsroom, satellite truck and helicopter;
On digital platforms, edit news stories in a compelling, interesting way.
Set an example of professionalism in photographic skill, attitude and commitment;
Assist in training other photographers;
Willingly accept other reasonable duties and assignments from the Chief Photographer or DMC News Division management;
If needed, monitor public safety scanners, make phone calls to public safety departments and travel to scenes of KSL news interest;
At events of news interest the job requires gathering information, shooting video and communicating with the producers and editors to effectively present the events on KSL news shows;
Photographer duties will not be limited to the newsroom, and will require photographer to travel to on-site story destinations as needed.
Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
Good vision and hand coordination.
Lift, move, and carry equipment that weighs 50-60 lbs. Able and willing to carry equipment for whatever distance is necessary to completely cover the event.
