KTVA-TV, Audio Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Purpose of Position: Audio Technicians set up, operate, and maintain audio equipment for television broadcasts. They also provide support to the Assistant Live Show Director by creating graphics as assigned.

Position’s Customer(s): News Department and viewers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties of Position:

30% Audio Operator

 Ensure all wired and/or wireless microphones and IFBs are correctly laid out and tested for on-air talent.

 Operate audio mixer to adjust volume and ensure quality of sound for broadcasts.

 Monitor video playback server and announce time cues to production crew.

 Report and/or repair equipment problems.

60% Graphics Assistant

 Coordinate with the Assistant Live Show Director to prioritize graphic needs with respect to deadlines for broadcast.

 Utilize graphic creation tools to build full-screen photographs, charts, graphs, maps and "over the shoulder" graphics according to station broadcast standards.

10% Digital Asset Manager

 Manage digital shared storage space by following policies and guidelines that detail best practices for archiving and deleting expired files.

REQUIREMENTS:

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience working with sound mixing boards, wired and wireless microphones, and IFB equipment. Technical understanding of MixMinus, Equalizers, Compressors and Gates preferred. Candidate should have above average skills in communications and multitasking. Ability to handle high stress environments and working as a team. General knowledge of computers and broadcast standards. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and AfterEffects preferred but not required.

Years of Experience required to meet minimum qualifications: Minimum one (1) year experience in the following: Audio Technician (DMH) 6.2016

 Running sound mixing boards

 Live television production

Level of Education required to meet minimum qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Associate’s degree, vocational certificate or equivalent work experience preferred.
