The Board of Directors of WRKF 89.3 FM in Baton Rouge, La., seeks a President and CEO. The successful candidate for this position will be an experienced, visionary leader eager to grow the station’s membership and listening audience while serving as the public face of the station throughout the region.
WRKF 89.3 FM is Baton Rouges independent nonprofit National Public Radio station, informing and entertaining the community since 1980 with support from underwriters and supporter donors who value original coverage of Louisiana news and politics and national and international news coverage from NPR news. WRKFs varied programming consists of primarily news/talk with a diverse mix of music and cultural programming like “American Routes” with Nick Spitzer, theater of the mind programs like “This American Life” with Ira Glass and variety programs like “Wait, Wait, Dont Me” with Peter Sagal. Overnight WRKF retransmits the BBC World Service. WRKF streams live on the web at www.wrkf.org and through the WRKF app available for both Apple and Android devices.
The President and CEO will provide leadership to the staff in all aspects of public radio, which include programming, marketing and fundraising; build and strengthen ties with the stations constituent groups, listeners, members, major donors, underwriters and other organizations in the region; maintain a positive, productive attitude among the station’s employees; and inspire staff members to achieve their full potential.
A bachelor’s degree in mass media communications, business administration, finance, or related field preferred (or equivalent in public radio experience).Familiarity with Corporation for Public Broadcasting funding and financial reporting requirements for foundation grantors.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Professional managerial and organizational competencies.
Proven soft skills building coalitions and negotiating issues with regional corporate management and with diverse members of the broader community.
Experience engaging in a variety of forms of fundraising.
Willingness and ability to serve as the public face of the station in the community.
