Chief Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of America’s most prestigious institutions for arts education, performance and fine arts is seeking to hire a Chief Engineer for Interlochen Public Radio. This position exists to maintain IPR studios, manage and maintain towers and transmitters, ensure radio station uptime, and take responsibility for compliance with FCC rules and logs.This is a full time position that does require on call work and occasional night and weekend work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major responsibilities will include the following:
Ensure the overall health and broadcast quality for both FM and online broadcasts.
Maintain studio audio equipment, including Axia consoles, microphones, cabling, speakers, headphones, amplifiers, etc.
Utilize ENCO hardware/software, Content Depot satellite receivers, Axia digital mainframe, Pathfinder control software.
Provide routine maintenance for five transmitter facilities.
Manage contract agreements with tower lessors and lessees
Having an understanding of Information Technology networking protocols as they relate to audio over IP.
Monitor alerts for transmitter sites and radio silence.
Incumbent will be in charge of decision-making on needed repairs, equipment purchases, etc, in collaboration with Information Technology leadership.
The candidate will be expected to assist with development of strategic planning of future initiatives

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications
Degree in broadcast engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
Excellent knowledge of studio equipment, maintenance and repairs.
Excellent knowledge and experience with audio over IP products such as Axia and Enco.
Excellent knowledge of basic recording equipment.
Live broadcast experience, preferably radio.
Knowledge of tower management.
Working knowledge of Information Technology networking protocols.
