Senior Audio Systems Engineer


KJZZ, KBAQ and Sun Sounds of Arizona are searching for a Senior Audio Engineer. This individual will install, maintain, and work with Analog, Digital, and Audio over IP for Broadcast systems. The client services will include computer software, hardware, peripherals and applications for use in audio servers, control surfaces, and workstation environments. This person will plant, coordinate and configure the installation of various audio system hardward and software. Will provide technical development in the Division's LAN/WAN casting arena.


Essential Duties

40% - Oversees the installation, operation, and administration of all on-air and production studio audio systems and peripheral equipment within the Division of Public Service including hardware and software changes, as well as administrative programming related to the core Vista-Max audio routing and distribution system.

30% - Oversees the configuration and administration of high performance on-air VoIP and AoIP systems for broadcast and electronic news gathering.

20% - Performs and evaluates critical systems for vulnerability and redundancy in cooperation with technical management.

10% - Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer.


Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree or combination of education, training and experience that provides the required Knowledge and Abilities.

7 years of work experience at a broadcast station in the role of a Staff Engineer or higher position.

5 years of work experience providing technical support to a collaborative broadcast news/production environment using Wide Orbit and/or Audio Vault automation systems.

5 years of work experience and understanding of audio transport technologies using ISDN, T-1, SIP, TCP/IP, UDP.

Evidence of working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems such as Windows 7/64, Server 2008 or higher, Microsoft Active Directory.

Demonstrated and verifiable ability to work in a collaborative work environment with non-technical staff members, supporting the needs of the organization.


Desired Qualifications

Experience and high level of understanding the PR&E Vista-Max/Vista-Link routing and control surface system or equivalent platforms.

Experience installing and administration of virtual server systems used by content generation programs for broadcast and web distribution.

Previous project work and/or project management experience as related to broadcast studio installation, audio distribution design, and compliance with SMPTE RP-155 and AES LuFS audio standards.

Experience customizing the settings to achieve ratings objectives using digital audio processing for broadcast and webcasting such as Orban and Omnia digital processors.

Administrator level understanding of VoIP telecom systems for broadcast studio use.

Society of Broadcast Engineers certification or certification from a similar technical society
