Inside Energy (IE) is a new local journalism collaboration based at Rocky Mountain PBS, one of the nation’s largest and most cutting-edge public media companies. Inside Energy serves in-depth, research-based energy reporting to public media outlets regionally and nationally. The team is made up of five reporters and two editors across Colorado, Wyoming, and North Dakota. Several public media stations support IE: Rocky Mountain PBS, KUNC Community Radio, Colorado Public Television, Wyoming Public Television, Wyoming Public Media and Prairie Public. IE provides partners with reporting that moves beyond polarized arguments and emotional debate to explore the points of tension, the tradeoffs and opportunities, and the very human consequences of energy policy, production, use and innovation in the U.S. IE seeks a part-time Social Media and Engagement Assistant, to be based in Denver, at Rocky Mountain PBS. This person will assist the Engagement Editor, who is the public voice of Inside Energy, and the back-end digital manager. The role focuses on serving all digital audiences (on desktop, mobile and social platforms), pushing content to other organizations and curating other energy content through IE. The Engagement Assistant works with the Engagement Editor and Executive Editor to promote project content, enhance digital and in-person engagement with content, and maintain good working relationships with content partners and service providers.
• Assist in the management of social media accounts: Strategically write, schedule and post social media daily to promote project (reporter stories, subscriber network, recruitment, events, etc.) • Maintain good relationships with our partners and their social media staff • Write short blog posts on news articles of interest • Edit web copy as needed • Assist in the management of newsletter content and distribution • Help maintain our website and work with outside web maintenance staff to troubleshoot problems • Assist in the reporting of web analytics to our editors and reporters • Take on projects to enhance our engagement efforts (these have been developed and will be assigned) • The Engagement Assistant will be encouraged to propose additional engagement efforts that the project should consider and, time willing, will be free to pursue his or her ideas
This is a part-time, temporary position requiring 15-20 hours per week (specific days and times will be agreed with candidates). These duties are currently managed by IE’s Engagement Editor, who will be on leave for six weeks during the summer. We will encourage the Engagement Assistant to begin as soon as possible upon hire in order to train with the Engagement Editor. Compensation will be $17 per hour.
