Producer/Host II - Fine Arts Producer

WKAR, the NPR affiliate for Michigan State University and the mid-Michigan region, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Fine Arts producer and on-air host. Responsibilities include hosting a daily classical music program, producing arts-based feature pieces for ‘Current State’ – a magazine news program, producing and scheduling on-air promos, and establishing and maintaining online social media engagement with listeners. This person will work closely with the station manager, other program hosts, and the contributing and assistant producers as well as student interns.

Research, produce, and present a daily classical/fine arts radio show. Produce weekly fine arts based features. Produce and schedule promos and related programmatic content. Develop and produce new segments, series and specials. Establish a social media presence and build audience engagement. Contribute to the overall arts programming strategy. Build connections within the fine arts community. Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, communication, music or related field is required. At least three years experience in fine arts programming and feature production. Experience with automation systems, digital workstations and scheduling software is required. Demonstrated ability to produce high quality fine arts content and programming. Ability to work on multiple tasks, on deadline and under pressure is expected. Self-motivation with experience turning ideas into action is expected. Prior on-air experience in commercial and/or public broadcasting. Work experience that demonstrates professionalism, knowledge and maturity.
