Purpose of Position: The Senior IT Engineer provides vision and leadership working closely with the other engineers and the Director of Engineering, maintaining Broadcast automation systems for the studio, all video editing workstations and our internal IT networks. Some travel will also be required to maintain our facilities around the State. Position’s Customer(s): Director of Engineering, senior staff, clients and members of the viewing audience. Position reports to: Director of Engineering and Operations.
Essential Duties of Position: •50% Managing all technical and operational aspects of the Denali Media Holdings Networks, server’s computers and other components of our facility that require a network interface. •25% Troubleshooting to resolve complex problems on a deadline. •25% Managing shared video network storage, various codecs and encoding systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: •Proficient IT skills related to modern automation, encoding, and video play out systems. •Solid understanding of ATSC Transport Streams and related technology. •Skilled in all facets of project management. •Proven ability to successfully plan, coordinate, and execute tactically and strategically. •Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills including outstanding communication skills both verbal and written. •Demonstrated ability to adjust to competing demands from multiple directions, and balance shifting priorities. •Demonstrated ability to manage through difficult and stressful situations, work under deadline pressure. •Experience with live studio and field production. •Strong PC and Mac computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook. Years of Experience required to meet minimum qualifications: Minimum six years’ experience in an IT and broadcast engineering position at a broadcast, video production or cable television facility, performing hands on work and maintaining and updating infrastructure. Minimum of three years of experience managing technical staff and projects including part-time and contract staff with demonstrated ability to improve performance, output and quality. Level of Education required to meet minimum qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Technology required. In addition to minimum experience required, degree may be substituted with relevant work experience on a year for year basis. Certifications Required: Cisco certifications preferred and Apple certification as Macintosh technician preferred. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and work in cramped spaces. Hearing, vision, depth perception, and hand-to-eye coordination sufficient to perform job duties. Visual and auditory acuity necessary to operate equipment and identify color-coding. Ability to tolerate temperature and weather extremes (fumes and odors, dust, low light conditions.) Strength and coordination sufficient to perform job duties. Standing for up to two hours at one time, and sitting for extended periods. Working Conditions: Inside/outside work. Work outside the facility and in all seasons is often required. Outside work will be in all weather conditions in Alaska as well as remote locations involving harsh arctic environments. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed. Driving Requirements (if applicable): A good driving record is required for this position. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof or personal auto liability insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.
