Assistant News Director

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide assistance in directing daily news content and coverage, news planning, and news gathering systems. Supervise planning and execution of special news coverage such as elections, documentaries, talk shows, community events, and coverage targeted to specific audiences. Act as Executive Producer as required. Supervise staff by providing guidance, training, discipline, and evaluations. Adapt and maintain appropriate personnel standards and policies and ensure notice and enforcement. Provide assistance in developing, updating and enforcing departmental standards for news material relating to coverage, legal issues, ethics, individual conduct, and quality. Review periodically. Prevent defamation and/or invasion of privacy issues pertaining to news coverage through training personnel and screening materials. Develop and implement strong communications system within news department. Provide leadership in management team meetings, participating in the establishment and dissemination of company policies and procedures. Develop and maintain working relationships with other news stations. Communicate with Operations and/or Master Control regarding equipment and personnel needs and/or daily programming changes due to breaking news. Contribute ideas for stories on a daily, weekly and long-range basis. Job

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Minimum 3 years experience in news management preferred. College Degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of Birmingham metro area an asset. Able to attend work regularly. Available to work irregular hours and holidays.
