Investigative Reporter

JOB DESCRIPTION:
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: We are looking for an aggressive, organized, compelling storyteller to work in our award winning '4 On Your Side' unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

REQUIREMENTS:
The right candidate will have 3 years reporting experience including hard hitting, relevant investigative work to show us. Our new Investigative Reporter will be self sufficient..enterprising stories year round, not just in Ratings Books.

The right candidate will be able to juggle multiple assignments and stories at once and work closely with KOB's Management Team and other members of 4OYS to put Investigative stories on the air that New Mexicans will care about.

You must be able to answer the question - Why do viewers care?- about every story that you pitch. Working knowledge of Investigative tools is essential.

Candidate must be able to follow a paper trail, use the Internet to dig deep and file paperwork and records requests in a timely manner to get what's needed to serve the story. Confrontation (when appropriate) is a must in our market.

We are looking for a 'street fighter' not a 'document stacker.' You can't be afraid to hold people accountable...even as they walk (or run) away from you.

In addition to longer term, longer form investigations, emphasis will be on daily turn stories that fit the 4OYS brand. Also, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT---reporter will NOT be full time 5-day-a-week Investigative to start. THERE WILL BE GENERAL ASSIGNMENT WORK ON A WEEKLY BASIS. The right reporter will enterprise from Day One. They will pitch and turn original stories true to the KOB brand. Immediately the requirement is 50% Enterprise reporting. OUR REPORTERS DO NOT AND CANNOT LIVE OFF THE ASSIGNMENT DESK. Applicant will handle a variety of news reporting assignments. We emphasize Breaking News and stories that hold people accountable. This reporter must be able to get answers to tough questions. We are active, live storytellers. If you are not moving and showing viewers something on your reel, don't send it. Active live shots are the expectation at KOB Eyewitness News 4. This reporter must write-it-like-he or she-talks it. You must be coachable to work in this Newsroom. You must want to take that constructive coaching to become a better reporter for KOB.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to: Travel to scenes where news is happening. Prepares enterprise stories. Writes, produces, and reports under deadline pressure. Ability to work flexible hours is a must.

The following physical requirements are typical but not all-inclusive: A valid driver's license and ability to be insurable. Dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard. Sufficient mobility to get around the building as well as climb in and out of vehicles, etc. Able to work in all t types of weather conditions .Able to see well with sufficient hearing.
