Full Time News Reporter

JOB DESCRIPTION:
WAGM TV is looking for a broadcast television reporter who can set up, shoot, write and edit their own stories for broadcast and web. Stories can cover any event, from hard news to features, on any given day

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This Reporter is expected to bring story ideas to the news department, which are found through beat checks, contacts, reading newspapers, etc. The reporter is then assigned to a story and may be required to shoot his or her own video and work as a One Man Band.

Before leaving the station, the Reporter will research the story, set up interviews, and set out to get all the elements for the story, at times requiring a stand-up

The Reporter will then view and log the video, noting the sound bites, b-roll and natural sound. It is an excellent idea to “write to video,” in other words, uses narration to supplement what the viewer sees and hears. The Reporter will then write the script, and have the script approved by a manager or Producer. The Reporter will then return to the edit booth to record a voice track and put the story together.

When the package is complete, the Reporter may be asked to “front” the story via a live shot or set piece. In this case the Reporter will take a toss from an anchor and handle the intro and outro of the story.

A good Reporter knows a little about everything, so reading the entire newspaper from front to back on a daily basis is a good idea. Most successful reporters are fast Writers, as they often have to jump on a story or go live at a moment’s notice.
