KCEC-TV Part Time News Assignment Editor / Teleprompter

The Assignment Editor is responsible for supervising the news coverage during the news shift. Other responsibilities include gathering and researching newspapers, wires and previous day scripts for story ideas and follow-ups, assisting video journalists in coverage of editorial beats, checking out news tips, researching stories and maintaining community contacts. Coordinates live response to breaking news and assigning coverage of news stories to reporters and photographers. Must be able to solve logistical problems in news coverage, arrange network and other news feeds, monitor police and fire scanners for breaking spot news, answer telephone calls, record all news feeds, research potential news stories and write as needed for newscasts. In addition, candidate may be asked to operate a teleprompter for studio talent during a live studio production.

Qualified candidates should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, good organizational skills, solid news judgment, strong computer skills and the ability to make quick decisions and work well under pressure. Bilingual Spanish/English is a must. Minimum of two years News Operations experience preferred. Ability to plan, organize, guide and motivate a group of individuals to accomplish tasks. Knowledge of government procedures and policies. Candidate should have experience in operating a teleprompter, video tape machines, studio multiplex communications system as well as being able to convert narrative scripts into transmission scripts. Must be able to work Holidays as needed and the necessary hours to perform the duties as outlined above.
