The Assignment Editor/ Web Editor is responsible for writing and editing stories for social media platforms as well as scheduling assignments based on available personnel. Monitors all police and fire radios. Handles customer service with large number of people who call in each day wanting stories covered and engages with viewers via the Station’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Works with producers to make sure stories for newscast are covered. Must be able to direct crews to news locations accurately and quickly using maps and the latest software. Checks news wires and beats each day. Works with the producer to coordinate news gathering through satellite and the Internet and communicating frequently with regional and national news outlets. This person reports to the Assistant News Director and Webmaster.
Previous or related experience on a television news assignment desk and/or producing a newscast is preferred. Proven management skills and college degree, helpful, preferably college degree in Journalism. Must have good computer Internet skills. Must have a mind for news, the ability to speak clearly, have excellent spelling and strong English grammar skills. Must be detail oriented and have great interpersonal skills. Must be able to handle stressful and time sensitive situations.
