KSL TV Senior Producer (Full-Time) - 2997

JOB DESCRIPTION:
To draw superior ratings for TV news programs by planning, designing and supervising news content that appeal to viewer interests. Produce compelling newscasts that meet the highest journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, sensitivity, timeliness. Ideal candidate will have strong leadership ability, and excellent communication skills. Creativity is a must as is a willingness and desire to lead news editorial meetings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervise news program producers, associate producers and graphic designers. Supervision includes assigning and scheduling their duties, training, motivating and leading them to professional growth and excellence and evaluating and rewarding their levels of performance.
  2. Determine treatment of individual stories from newscast to newscast, the mix and type of stories, which will appeal to and service a large number of viewers.
  3. Determine the appropriate use of graphics, sets, opens, bumpers, and teases and format to enhance the visual and topical interest and pacing of news broadcasts.
  4. Direct informal critiques of each daily newscast to note strengths and weaknesses of all elements and create mechanisms to ensure that appropriate feedback is provided to all parties concerned.
  5. Contribute ideas for coverage of individual news stories, series and special events working with assignment editors, reporters and producers on effective approaches. Participate in story conference and news management team meetings.
  6. Oversee assignment of special projects and other responsibilities to line producers.
  7. Oversee editing of news copy for clarity, accuracy, grammar and style.
  8. Consistently works hours required. Works more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, holidays, evenings, etc.
  9. Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree in journalism, a related field, or equivalent.
  • Three years successful experience as producer in a broadcasting environment, or equivalent.
  • Able to write, produce and edit material for a newscast that appeals to targeted audiences. A writing audition may be required.
  • Able to be creative, aggressive and energetic, reflecting maximum quality and professionalism to build audience share, with excellent judgment.
  • Self-starter capable of performing and handling stress, particularly during peak hours to meet deadlines, as the services performed have short and long-term effects on the company and viewing public.
  • Have the ability to organize, delegate and motivate other people in order to coordinate news activities from conceptualization to successful execution.
  • Have proven record of dependability and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Consistently works hours required to meet deadlines including weekends, holidays, overnight, evenings, overtime, etc.
  • Proven ability to handle stress.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, BUT NOT REQUIRED:
  • Prefer someone familiar with ENPS and with the ability to utilize state-of-the-art television technology.
  • Prefer experience in an organization similar to KSL's and knowledge of community organizations and resources.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
  • Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hand, and/or fingers.
  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
