Edward R Murrow Award Winning Broadcaster WJZY, the FOX O&O in Charlotte, NC is looking for a News Producer, responsible for daily production of newscast (s) to include: setting up stories, interviews, writing, graphic coordination and social media posting. Must become very knowledgeable about the Charlotte region and develop meaningful contacts. Become fluent with the Fox 46 news brand and strive for excellence in headline writing skills. Research stories online and on telephone with appropriate sources and contacts.
Level of performance requires a superior command of grammar and broadcast news-writing style. Aggressively participates in covering breaking news in and out of newscasts.
Coordinate with web/social team to coordinate coverage for online and on-air. Log and edit video for inclusion on scripts. Accountable for editorial decisions and/or changes made in the control room while the newscast is on the air. Communicates via IFB to provide producer direction and talent instruction to crews in the field and in studio. Collaborate with Executive Producer prior to air and during newscast about changes. Partner with newscast director before, during and after newscast to accomplish creative and clean production. Work with reporters to develop story scripts. Edits reporter scripts and provides feedback. Assign voiceovers and VO-SOTs to reporters and anchors. Work with on-air staff by phone and
in person to assist with story development and/or story support. Supervise and oversee the writers assigned to the shift. Assign writing ideas to APs. Edit AP scripts and provide feedback. Maintain open communication with News Director, the news management team and all station personnel to efficiently, respectfully and professionally complete news assignments. Participates in news meetings to provide story and production ideas for any and all newscasts. Participate in special projects and programming. Constantly uses verbal, audible, and visual abilities to perform essential functions. Sits for extended period of time in order to accomplish essential duties. Comply with all Station and Department policies, procedures and guidelines related activities. Occasionally bends stoops and crouches to arrange copy/script paper for work related functions.
Must possess a minimum of 2 years’ television news writing and producing experience. College degree in journalism or equivalent is required. iNews and Adobe Premiere Pro experience preferred. Must possess excellent news judgment. Knowledge of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County area is preferred. Dependability, strong writing skills and accuracy are crucial.
