Description: WIAT-TV CBS42 is searching for an Investigative Reporter who is driven to seek honest, relevant, compelling enterprise stories. The ideal candidate will be relentless in the pursuit of the truth. A proven track record of strong journalistic skills and supreme ethical standards is a must. The successful applicant will understand how to generate sources and will bring lead stories to the newsroom. Stories will require a high production value. This position requires multitasking through multiple investigations at any given time. Proficiency in newsroom computer systems (iNews/ ENPS) is a must. Knowledge of Panasonic cameras and AVID editing equipment helpful. Ability to data mine, properly fill out freedom of information acts and navigate through various government entities is a must. Job entails moderate to high stress and deadline pressure, while keeping a strong attention to detail. Candidates must be able to occasionally shoot and edit material.

Responsibilities:

Requirements: Five years of Reporter/ Anchor experience and college degree preferred.

Sports Anchor in Birmingham

Description: The Sports Director/Anchor delivers and contributes accurate, visual, news content across all media platforms.

Responsibilities:

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Anchor Sports weekdays, report sports stories and help organize/plan the Sports Department on a weekly basis. Must be able to handle anchoring long form sports coverage such as College Pre Game and Post Game Shows. Assist in writing and producing sports on a daily basis.

  • Responsible for evaluating stories; organizing them into a cohesive sequence within a sportscast or digital content for the web.
  • Define strategic direction for content coverage to meet business objectives.
  • Manage sports department, contribute to the editorial process and make solid decisions in breaking sports situations.
  • Monitor postproduction processes to ensure accurate completion of details.
  • Execute strategies that engage and grow audiences across all digital devices.
  • Write, produce and edit material that appeals to target audiences.
  • Research production topics using the internet, video archives, and other information sources.

Requirements:

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to interact well with video journalists, anchors, videographers, news managers, production and engineering staff.
  • Detail oriented; proficient in non-linear editing.
  • Excellent verbal, written, grammar and analytical skills.
  • Strong news and sports judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Ability to meet quality standards for service & evaluate customer satisfaction.
  • Proficient in non-linear editing.

Training/Equipment: Utilize state-of-the-art television technology; MS Outlook, E-mail.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: High stress environment with deadline pressures. Some travel may be required on an occasional basis.

Director in Birmingham

Description: Before and during the broadcast of a live television program like a news show, the broadcasting director communicates via headset to the anchors as well as to the camera operators and technicians to give instructions and is responsible for the overall look and sound of a show as it happens.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the show`s Producer in order to understand the desired look and feel for the program.
  • Employ the help of the vision switcher, who works specialized equipment to shift camera views and graphics throughout the program.
  • Supervise the placement of video cameras, lighting equipment, microphones, and props.
  • Maintain order among the staff in the control room, and on the set.
  • Facilitate a team environment; provide leadership and inspiration to co-workers and act as a positive catalyst for the overall group.
